A New Tetrapod Ichogenus from the Upper Triassic of New Mexico, with Notes on the Ichnotaxonomy of Rhynchosauroides
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Redonda Formation (Upper Triassic: late Norian/Rhaetian: Apachean) of the Chinle Group of east-central New Mexico yields a significant tetrapod ichnofauna. Some specimens previously referred to Rhynchosauroides represent a new ichnogenus named Apachepus cottonorum igen. et isp. nov. characterized by having a pedal print that is elongate with long, narrow digits, with digit V being very short and digits II-IV being subequal in length with a deep, rounded heel. The ichnogenus Rhynchosauroides is in need of taxonomic revision.

A reappraisal of the Middle Triassic chirotheriid Chirotherium ibericus Navás, 1906 (Iberian Range NE Spain), with comments on the Triassic tetrapod track biochronology of the Iberian Peninsula
Triassic vertebrate tracks are known from the beginning of the 19th century and have a worldwide distribution. Several Triassic track ichnoassemblages and ichnotaxa have a restricted stratigraphic range and are useful in biochronology and biostratigraphy. The record of Triassic tracks in the Iberian Peninsula has gone almost unnoticed although more than 25 localities have been described since 1...

The vertebrate recovery after the end-Permian mass extinction can be approached through the ichnological record, which is much more abundant than body fossils. The late Olenekian (Early Triassic) tetrapod ichnoassemblage of the Catalan Pyrenean Basin is the most complete and diverse of this age from Western Tethys. This extensional basin, composed of several depocenters, was formed in the lates...

—The Upper Triassic Painted Desert Member of the Petrified Forest Formation in north-central New Mexico yields one of the most extensive and significant Revueltian (early-mid Norian) tetrapod faunas known. Particularly significant aspects of this fauna are: (1) its long history of collection and study, including designation of important type specimens; and (2) the richness of the unit, includin...
